On the morning of August 12, 2004, the friends of RISE International learned of the sudden death of RISE founder and president, Dr. J. Andrew Cole. Andrew died peacefully at his home in Winnetka, Illinois. He was age 50. Dr. Cole touched and inspired the hearts of literally thousands of people both in the U.S. and in Africa, reflecting the love of Jesus of Nazareth to all he met. His heart for the people of Angola, and his tireless passion to help and encourage others was a powerful witness to the charge of Isaiah 58:10, "If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry, and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness..." We in North America and Africa grieve for the loss of our dear brother and leader. We pledge our support and comfort to the family Andrew loved so dearly. These web pages tell the story of RISE, often in Andrew's own words. We encourage the world to learn of Andrew's vision for RISE and to share in the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the people of "Messiah's Outpost," Angola. |
