School at Lixeira

In the village of Lixeira Kandimba, near Lobito in the Benguela Province, there are over 3000 children that do not have a school to attend. Drought has been severe, food is scarce and yet they have asked for schools, for education. With a matching gift, donors generously responded to our Spring Appeal and the school was fully funded.
The construction is underway. The parents, community and churches are committed to making this happen. They have carried water from the river, mixed mortar and hauled bricks, doing what it takes to get a school built for their children. They want the same things for their children that each of us desire--health, education, opportunity, security, a solid future. The local administration contributed 100 bags of cement and the Ministry of Education has assigned a Principal and teachers for Lixeira.
As the July Team drove up to the site, we were greeted by hundreds of children creating a path to the school. The enthusiasm and gratitude was incredible and they look forward to the completion of their new school.

New Schools through Chicago Marathon Team RISE Fundraising

Team RISE had a big goal of raising $80,000 to build a school, and now enough has been donated to build two, one U-shape for 800 children and an L-shape for another 500. The schools will be built at Kaila in the Huila Province, 50km south of Lubango, a place where there has never been a school. This will impact more than 1300 kids and their families immediately, and many more for years to come!
