Why do teams travel to Angola?

RISE began as a result of personal involvement and relationship. This remains a key element, critical to the growth and impact of our organization. Each group that has traveled has been personally affected, returning to become a voice for RISE, inspiring and engaging others to become involved, to make a difference.

There is little substitute for seeing, understanding and experiencing. People from both cultures are encouraged and challenged to grow. Eyes are opened to issues of compassion and justice. Many who travel on teams are teachers, students, individuals who have been involved in their groups, schools and churches--they have collected supplies, raised funds and they see the schools, the children and return to "report" and communicate what they have seen.

The Angolans ask us to come. They've shared how our teams are different, spending time, holding their children. They are grateful as they no longer feel forgotten. Many have said they find it hard to believe that we would come and "sacrifice" to be with them. It is a powerful demonstration of partnership and commitment, often more meaningful than the funds that are sent.
