Just four years ago when we began building schools in rural Angola, materials were scarce and of low quality. Now, supply yards are opening. The Ministry of Education is struggling to reform the system, making progress as it raises the level of training required for teachers, makes class sizes smaller, and works to refine the curriculum.

In response to these changes, the request of the government and our leadership teams in Angola, and in an ongoing effort to implement best practices, RISE is moving to a new school design that is more efficient and quality-driven and will provide greater longevity. With additional classrooms, it will meet the needs of even more children while allowing for future expansion.

Three prototypes began construction in 2007, one in Benguela, one in Bie, and one in Huila. Sites had been carefully selected using criteria laid out in our Partnership Manual.
