Years of war have created a generation so lacking in education, that few adults have had the oppurtunity to complete their schooling. To be hired as a teacher in rural areas, a prerequiesite of only an 8th grade education is needed. The need for additional training is great. Hungry to learn new skills and techniques, Angolan teachers and leaders, along with representatives of the Ministry of Education, eagerly participate in training workshops offered by RISE teams during Pilgrimages of Service. RISE has offered training and workshops in refugee camps and in Angola, but a more focused initiative began in 2005. A multi-year plan for the It Takes Courage! AIDS education training was implemented in February 2007. |
