Years of war have created a generation so lacking in education that few adults have had the oppurtunity to complete their schooling. To be hired as a teacher in rural areas, a prerequisite of only an 8th - 10th grade education is needed, with a goal to complete the 12th grade in the future. The need for additional training is great. Hungry to learn new skills and techniques, Angolan teachers and leaders, along with representatives of the Ministry of Education, eagerly participate in workshops offered by RISE teams during Pilgrimages of Service. RISE has offered workshops in refugee camps and in Angola, with a more focused initiative that began in 2005. |
