Team to Angola Top Row: Bottom Row: |
|
Many truly amazing pieces have come together--RISE partnered with Global Connections of Willow Creek Community Church, Kerus Global Education, and the Angolan Ministry of Education to bring a training to Angola called "It Takes Courage!" which focuses on building character, making wise choices, developing healthy relationships and the prevention of AIDS. The team traveled to three locations in three different provinces to offer the four-day training. Marcia and Jennie, the authors of the curriculum, along with the third trainer, Dick, are masterful teachers--the trainings were wonderful and were embraced by the nearly 300 teachers and leaders that participated. Those participants now have the privilege and responsibility of teaching what they have learned to other teachers and leaders, those in their churches, villages and communities, and to the children--the future leaders. With education, Angola can potentially avoid being ravaged by AIDS as has happened in all surrounding countries.** Additionally, hours were spent meeting with RISE leadership teams and traveling over brutal roads to visit 19 RISE schools in very rural places. Bumping over roads for 2 to 3 hours and then coming upon a RISE school defies explanation--and then finding a crowd waiting to greet us, to sing, and to say thank you for our help! ** for further information, Training Summary Photo Gallery of Site Visits |
