Progress to Date

  • The 5 schools in our pilot program are complete and are now providing a place for children to learn.
  • 25 additional village schools were completed in 2004, another 38 in 2005.  In each village, there are 300-700 "learners," as they are called, currently in attendance, totaling more than 30,000 children that would not have been in school.
  • The Schools for Angola program can only be overseen and moved forward by local leadership.  A leadership team of solid, committed people is in place in central Angola, and others are being added in provinces where schools are being built.  They cast the vision for the schools, oversee construction, interface with partnering churches, and manage operations in Angola.
  • A Manual and Partnership Agreement has been developed outlining the steps and partnership process. RISE also works with the Angolan Minishry of Education, which provides and pays for the teachers.
  • School design plans have been refined to incorporate a policy of "best practices" to ensure quality and continuous improvement.
